Indianapolis Bike To Work Day

Bicycle Indiana in conjunction with IndyGo and the City of Indianapolis, are pleased to announce the Indianapolis Bike-to-Work Day on Friday May 21, 2010. With the goal of promoting bicycle commuting as a viable mode of transportation, the event highlights the month of May, recognized nationally as Bike Month.

Bicyclists will commute to Monument Circle where they will enjoy free bike parking, breakfast, giveaways and information about bicycling and regular commuting. Organized commuter rides led by experienced cyclists from the Indianapolis community will leave from 11 different locations around the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area beginning at 6:30am and arrive at the circle no later than 8:00am. For the start location nearest you, please click Here for more information.

From 8:00 - 8:30am Bicycle Indiana and its sponsors will host a press conference to emphasize the environmental, economic (think gas prices) and healthy lifestyle benefits of regular bicycle commuting.  Following the press conference, IndyGo will demonstrate how to use bus bicycle racks.

Again this year, Bicycle Garage Indy (BGI) will sponsor the Corporate Challenge, a competition open to all public and private corporations, businesses, organizations and government agencies. BGI Corporate Challenge winners are determined according to the total miles ridden by company employees. Because some riders cannot geographically ride a bike for their entire commute, riders may use public transportation for a portion of their trip and ride a bike for the remainder.  Points will be awarded in the following manner: 1 mile of bicycle riding = 2 points; 1 mile of transit riding = 1 point.
