BGI Corporate Challenge
The goal of Indianapolis Bike to Work Day is to promote bicycle commuting as a viable mode of transportation in the greater metropolitan Indianapolis area and for all to consider the benefits - a more active lifestyle, less traffic congestion and a healthier community. We want to encourage individuals to leave their cars at home for the day and ride their bikes to work.
EVENT DATE: Friday, May 21, 2010
DEADLINE: Thursday, May 20, 2010 to confirm participation
HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BGI CORPORATE CHALLENGE:
1. All team members must complete an individual registration form.
2. Select a Team Captain and indicate this person on the registration form. Team Captains will be responsible for coordinating your team and be the designated point of contact with the Indianapolis Bike to Work Day Planning Committee.
TWO WAYS TO WIN!!
New for 2010, BGI Corporate Challenge winners are determined by two ranking systems. The first ranking is the basic point system - according to total miles ridden by company employees. The second opportunity is by percentage of riders. One of the objectives of BTWD is to increase the number of bicycle commuters; in 2010 we will be rewarding companies with the highest percentage of riders participating in a Bike-To-Work Day ride. Companies are not eligible to win in both ranking systems.
THE BASIC POINT SYSTEM:
As certain riders cannot geographically ride a bike for their entire commute, riders may use public transportation for a portion of their trip and ride a bike for the remainder. Points are awarded in the following manner:
1 mile of bicycle riding= 2 points 1 mile of transit riding= 1 point
WANT TO INCREASE YOUR POINTS?
Bicycle Friendly Bonus Points are awarded for the following:
Executive Club Points: Did you get your President, Vice President or Executive Director to ride their bike to work? +50 additional mileage points!
Showers and Changing Rooms: Does your business offer employees a place to shower and store a change of clothes after cycling to work? +20 additional mileage points!
Bicycle Parking: Does your business provide secure racks, lockers, or other methods for employees to safely secure their bicycles? +10 additional mileage points!
Safety Materials: Does your business provide literature to employees on helmet use and how to safely ride on city streets? +10 additional mileage points!
